Justice for Michael Cox – Legal Defense Fund
Most recent update is at bottom of page!
Hello, my name is Michael Cox, and I’m asking for your support as I fight for my freedom and clear my name.
I am currently being prosecuted by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office for a crime I did not commit. The case brought against me lacks probable cause, and the process has been anything but just.
A detective involved in the case omitted crucial facts when he requested that the court approve criminal charges against me. This distorted the truth and shaped a narrative that is far from reality. Based on this misleading account, an arrest warrant was issued.
On the day of my arrest, over 20 armed officers in SWAT vests surrounded my home. They stormed in without a search warrant, using an overwhelming show of force that traumatized me and my family. We are still grappling with the emotional and psychological toll of that day.
I’m super grateful the Massachusetts Bail Fund posted the $2,500 bail which is far outside of their normal range.
Now, I am in urgent need of qualified legal counsel to challenge this case and argue for its full dismissal. I’m not just fighting for myself—I’m fighting for truth, fairness, and the right to be heard in a system that has failed me so far.
While the case is pending, my family and I are living in a state of stress, anxiety, and uncertainty. The financial burden of legal defense is heavy, and that’s why I’m turning to you.
We retained private counsel last week based on a recommendation from someone I trust. We were able to make an initial payment of $2,500 and we are asking for help with the second so the case is not delayed.
Your donation—no matter the amount—will go directly toward my legal fees and help me retain the defense I need to clear my name. Any overage will go toward transportation from Worcester to Boston. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this campaign to help spread the word.
Thank you for standing with me during this incredibly difficult time. Your support means everything.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Michael Cox
Update #1:
I dispersed the first $500 to my attorney. I was able to put my new lilo and stitch check to use whose cuteness I hope was not lost on the attorney.
I can’t express how grateful I am to have community and friends to take a little weight off of my shoulders through these very tough times. I’ve had a lot of wins like a self-litigated injunction stopping the foreclosure, effectively sending a demand letter to insurance company to force them to repair my home, and no issues with probation. I have running water too - but its only cold water so far!
I am still juggling a lot - basic survival, sobriety, coordinating house repairs, fixing a leaking pipes, coping with continued state surveillance, and looking for a long term solution for housing. It’s a lot but I’ve been taking respite in growing plants and gardening.
Update #2
Without saying too much, private counsel on the Boston case is working on two pretrial motions. The goal is to dispose of the case without any need for a trial which will save the courts, the attorney, myself and my family a lot of stress, time and anxiety.
The motions will provide us with an opportunity to argue that the “criminal complaint” should not have been issued. The application process was abused and the judge (or clerk) that issued the complaint was manipulated. The applicant cherry picked quotes from a conversation they allege took place. However, they omitted every quote which demonstrated at all times the conversation reflects two adults communicating with one another.
Of course, I know motions to dismiss based on probable cause are not easily won. There is a tendency to deny such motions. However, I am optimistic the truth will be sufficient.
